History

The Mount William brand is derived from Mount William Station, one of the original pastoral properties of Australia’s early settlement established in 1842. Based at the foothills of the Grampians in Victoria’s South West, the original property covered 57,000 acres (230km2) at its peak, shearing over 100,000 fine wool merinos and supporting its own small community.  In 1919, the Barr Smith family purchased the property and today the business supports the fifth family generation.

Since Robert Barr Smith migrated to Australia in 1854, the extended group has grown significantly and holds business interests across agriculture, funds management, real estate, corporate advisory and other pursuits.
